The Next Generation ITS Platform Automatically Updating up-to-date ITS Application and Data

- Today’s navigation service does not guarantee providing up-to-date navigation information to the users. It requires that users manually update the GIS map data and the navigation application into the newest one. In this paper, we propose new ITS platform providing automatic update of the navigation application and its map data through a wireless network. When the software starts running, our platform inspects the version of navigation application and its map data. In case of stale, our platform automatically download latest one as soon as delete the stale one. The transmitted application and data are a piece of the whole but not entire. The platform breaks the software and data into several pieces that are streamed to the user as needed. Immediately on downloading the first piece of the software and data, it is executable. In this way, our platform enables software and data to be updated through slow wireless network while minimizing user perceived application load time.
