Abstract
Now satellite broadcast providers want to increase data rate throughput in a given bandwidth. This need is executable by high order modulation and advanced channel coding technology. The backward compatible mode with that allows DVB-S receivers to continue operating, while providing additional capacity and services to new advanced receivers, is needed. In this paper the DVB-S2 hierarchical backward compatible mode system with current DVB-S receivers is introduced for simultaneously supporting DVB-S broadcast and new additional services. And the theoretical equations for performance evaluation are derived, the required CNR of HP and LP stream according to code rates and deviation angles are simulated, and optimized selection method under the user applications conditions is provided.
