Abstract
This paper proposes a dynamic state management scheme which is based on the MAC states and it exploits optimal allocation of limited radio resources to the mobile station in active state. The basic concept of the scheme is classifying time characteristics of traffic sessions and sharing its bandwidth between different traffic flows using the traffic state information. Through simulation, we derive optimal transition timer values at which the MAC states should be transited and capture power saving effects. We use an HTTP model and a streaming model and the results show that the considered MAC state management scheme dynamically supports radio resource handling and reduce power consumption of mobile stations guaranteeing quality of services of traffic sessions.
