Abstract
This paper presents the inverse modified DCT hardware coprocessor being able to use in common for the MPEG-4 audio decoding. Generally, MPEG-4 audio decoders, such as BSAC, AAC, and TwinVQ, are commonly using IMDCT (Inverse Modified Discrete Cosine Transform) in filterbank to transform frequency to time mapping. If using the proposed IMDCT coprocessor, we can lessen the total MIPS value of the main processor for the MPEG-4 audio decoding by 40%. Moreover, the whole power consumption of the decoder can go down by 37% due to its cooperation.
