Abstract
With the explosive growth of network applications, the demand for bandwidth is also growing. In such a high-speed network environments, it is more likely for the network resources to be exposed to various intrusion activities. Network intrusion prevention systems (NIPSes) provide proactive defense against security threats by detecting and blocking attack-related traffic in real time. This task can be highly complex, and therefore, software-based NIPSes have difficulty in handling high speed links. In this paper, we describe hardware-based Security Gateway System (SGS) to overcome these shortcomings of software-based solutions. By designing and implementing intrusion prevention module in FPGA, we can solve the problem of performance and has capability of intrusion prevention in future multi-gigabit network environment.
