Abstract
This paper introduces a software platform for the early perception of environmental disasters based on big-data analytics and DBMS. Specifically, our proposed system, EDEN, collects satellite images and sensor data with pre-processing and stores them in a distributed file system respectively. Our system analyzes them in order to track predefined indicators and indexes of disasters with various scientific algorithms. Furthermore, our big-data system computes these massive indicators and indexes with the help of DBMS processing arrays to efficiently perceive potential signs of disasters, and the results analyzed from both micro-and macroscopic perspectives is heavily tied with national-scale disaster alerts systems.
