Abstract
We present a novel polyimide micro-heat control system, embedding with a micro heater and a temperature sensor, and silicon reaction chamber for polymerase chain reaction (PCR). We have demonstrated a precise heat control, and rapid thermal response in the chip, and the chip successfully amplified PCR of a genomic DNA template (breast cancer suppressor gene, BRCA 1 127 base pairs) in a 3 μI-volume chamber within 18 min, extracted from the human whole blood, and it is applicable a lab-on-a-chip for precise, fast, efficient and cost-effective DNA analysis, including biomedical applications and disease diagnostics. © 2006 IEEE.
