Abstract
One approach for moving object tracking is location polling. It is classified into server-based and terminal-based location polling, based on the position of the location acquisition agent. As the capabilities of the terminal are increased, many advanced terminal-based location polling techniques were introduced. One of the techniques is road network-based prediction. This technique assumes that an object moves along the shape of a known road segment and enables various services that rely on the road information. This paper 1) describes the classification of server and terminal-based location polling techniques, 2) presents a specific explanation of improved terminal-based location polling techniques and road network-based predictions, and 3) proposes the design of a road network-based tracking system.
