Abstract
The BE (Best Effort) service is not sensitive to the packet delay compared with other services supported by IEEE802.16e wireless access networks. This enables MS (Mobile Station) to save power at the expense of QoS. In this paper, we present an adaptive sleep window control scheme suitable for saving power in downlink BE services provided by IEEE802.16e based wireless access networks. Without any modification to the standard, the presented scheme allows the MS (Mobile Station) to adaptively update the length of the initial-sleep window by considering the estimated burst inter-arrival times at the MS. Through the results of simulations for web browsing, the most typical BE service, we show that the proposed scheme improves the power-saving effect in terms of awake rate and normalized active time without significantly deteriorating mean packet delay.
