Abstract
The WiBro system based OFDMA/TDD requires uplink ranging procedure for uplink synchronization which adjusts timing offset among mobile stations. If the uplink ranging procedure were not operated properly, the OFDM system experiences severe distortion owing to destroying the orthogonal property among other carriers. Therefore, the OFDM system demands the fast and precise measure method of timing offset which is called uplink ranging procedure. In this paper, we propose modified ranging code allocation and novel timing offset searching method for fast uplink ranging in WiBro system. The proposed method which uses the symmetric property of twiddle factor has the property of fast measure response compared with conventional method. From the mathematical analysis, we will explain the characteristic and operation of proposed method. Finally, through the numerical analysis, we will also show that the mean hit time of proposed method is improved compared with that of conventional method.
