- This paper presents an efficient e-mail protocol that can be used for secure e-mail transmissions between mobile equipments, especially mobile phones equipped with IC (Integrated Circuit) chips. The protocol makes it possible that a user who has a mobile phone, but has no public-key certificate, sends or receives an encrypted e-mail using a memorable password shared with his mobile e-mail server only. Therefore the protocol can be more easily implemented and efficiently used for mobile e-mail systems. To the best of our knowledge, the new protocol is the first e-mail protocol does not require expensive public-key certificate related computations. © 2007 IEEE.
