Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel idea to locate intersections in a live video sequence recorded from a moving vehicle based on the dynamics of road boundary features. More specifically, the proposed algorithm is developed based on the idea that features from a video sequence containing an intersection show different characteristics compared with a video sequence without an intersection. In our implementation, we 1) extract features of road boundary, 2) analyze the dynamics of the extracted features in a live video sequence, and 3) locate intersections based on the dynamics of road boundary features. Experimental results are provided to show the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm under various road conditions such as shadows and snow, etc.
