Abstract
New standards for satellite broadcasting systems are emerging for adaptive broadband transmission with increased bandwidth efficiency. The DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite, Version 2) adopts the APSK (Amplitude Phase Shift Keying) modulation for enhanced performance over nonlinear channels. In this paper, BER (Bit Error Rate) performance of the APSK modulation combined with a nonlinear PA (Power Amplifier) model is evaluated by deriving analytic upper bounds. The result is used to determine optimal input power level minimizing the BER, and the performance comparison with the conventional QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulation is also given. © 2007 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.
