A qualification model (QM) of the Up-Converter Assembly (UCA) for On-Board Switching (OBS) Ka-band satellite transponders has been developed. It consists of an MMIC based upconverter module for frequency conversion from S-band to K-band and an SPD local oscillator module providing low noise 8.375 GHz driving signal. Both modules have internal redundancy for improving the reliability. The performance test results for the UCA showed a gain of 17짹0.2 dB, a C/IM3 of 53 dBc, and a phase noise of 91.5 dBc at 10 kHz offset over the qualification temperature range. Environment tests including a vibration test, a thermal vacuum test, and an EMC test were performed that were all complied with requirements of the UCA. © 2007 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.
