본 고에서는 저소비 전력과 낮은 전자파 방출 특성을 가지는 디지털 논리회로 설계 방식인 비동기 회로 설계 기술 분야의 특허 출원 및 등록 동향을 정리한 문서이다. 비동기 회로 설계 기술은 동기식 설계의 동작 시간 결정의 기준이 되는 클록 신호 대신 데이터의 처리가 필요한 부분에서 상호 간에 데이터를 주고 받는 방식, 즉 핸드쉐이킹을 통한 데이터 처리를 특징으로 하는 설계 기술이다. 본 고에서는 비동기 설계 기술에 관한 기술 분류, 주요 기술 분야에 대한 최근 기술 동향, 한국, 미국, 일본, 유럽의 출원 및 등록 특허 현황에 대한 분석을 수행하였다. 국내외 특허 동향 분석 결과, 국내 비동기 설계 기술의 현수준은 관련국 중 최하위 수준을 나타내고 있으며, 따라서 향후 국제 경쟁력 및 기술 확보를 위하여 원천 기술과 특허에 대한 꾸준한 연구개발이 필요할 것이다.
