최근 초고속의 무선데이터 통신을 지원하기 위한 시스템으로 WiBro (Wireless Broadband) 시스템이 대두 되고 있다. 본 논문은 WiBro시스템의 한 셀에서 서비스 중인 단말기의 비정상 상태를 점검하는 다중레벨 keep-alive 방법(MLKA : Multi-Level Keep Alive) 방법을 제안하고 있다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 MLKA방법은 WiBro 시스템에서 주기적인 레인징 코드들을 그룹화 하여 단말의 위치에 따라 시간 오차와 전력 오차를 조정하기 위해서 사용하는 주기적인 레인징 기능을 이용한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 MLKA 알고리즘은 단말의 비정상 상태를 점검하기 위해서 필요한 keep-alive 메시지 사용을 감소 시킨다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 알고리즘의 우수성을 검증하기 위해서 이론적인 수학적 접근 방법과 시뮬레이션 검증 방법을 사용 하였고, 시뮬레이션 결과로부터 기존의 메시지 기반 keep-alive 방법보다 keep-alive 메시지 사용을 줄일 수 있다. 그러므로 본 논문에서 제안하는 MLKA 알고리즘은 제어 메시지 사용을 감소 시키므로 WiBro 시스템의 트래픽 성능을 증가 시킨다.
