Enabling Interoperable Conditional Access Services on the IPTV through Software Downloading

- Abstract
- To prohibit the unauthorized accesses on premium contents, IPTV service providers need to adopt Conditional Access System (CAS) services. Adopting an IP CAS enables the service provider to make profit from the IPTV and to persuade the content providers that they manage the contents securely. Although several standard specifications have been published for interoperable CAS models, the CAS models are based on the unidirectional or restricted bi-directional broadcasting network and do not utilize the characteristics of IP network. In this paper, we introduce the interoperable CAS services for the IPTV through software downloading. For providing the CAS services, we derive the necessary system components for an interoperable CAS and analyze their requirement.
