- ETRI has been developing the Ka band multi-beam antenna system for COMS(Communications, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite) which will be launched at the end of 2008. This paper describes the results of Ka band multi-beam antenna design, analysis, and test. The measured RF characteristics, such as gain, side-lobe, cross-polarization discrimination, and cross-polarization isolation, etc. comply with the performance requirements. Also, the mechanical design results show that the multi-beam antenna system has enough design margins in the mechanical and thermal point of view. The technologies and heritages obtained from this development will be applied to the next Korean communication satellite in the near future.
