Abstract
As the computing capability of mobile devices increases and the prevailing web technologies are becoming more dynamic, the location-based service (LBS) is provided as core functionality by various mobile applications. However, such applications show weakness in providing satisfactory context-aware services for the user and they are applicable within the limited area. Also, since the professional modeling ability and the modification of source code are required, the reuse of the existing context-aware services is difficult. To address these shortcomings, this paper presents a novel model-based context-aware system using the location of the user. The proposed system aims to generate a list of recommended services from workflow-based models which need sensor data, user profiles, and location information. Our case studies demonstrate how our approach can be applied to context-aware applications on the Android platform. The experimental results indicate that the proposed context-aware system can effectively provide a list of relevant services whenever user location changes. ©2014 International Information Institute.
