Abstract
In sensor networks, ranging and positioning as well as communicating among sensor nodes are the important feature to characterize applications of sensor devices. The IEEE 802.15.4a already has released the alternative PHY and MAC with IR-UWB signals to accomodate the ranging function in low rate WPAN devices. This paper shows the implementation of IEEE 802.15.4a MAC for ragning and data communications. First we introduce the implementation issues of channel access functions which are the key features to prevent collision from competing data transmission between devices. Then we describe message sequences and protocol stacks which are defined to support ranging functions and eventually commnet the conclusions.
