Abstract
To enhance coverage and throughput of IEEE 802.16 networks, 802.16j task group has standardized capabilities and functionalities of multi-hop relay (MR). This paper first mentions simulation assumptions based on the draft of IEEE 802.16j. We present three relay station (RS) deployment scenarios of throughput enhancement, coverage extension and mobile relay. This paper takes WiBro as an example of 802.16e network. Through system level simulations according to those scenarios, we evaluate performance of WiBro system with mobile multi-hop relay and focus on comparison of WiBro system with RS to that without RS. Simulation results show that introducing RS into 802.16e network leads to dramatic performance enhancement. ©2008 IEEE.
