Abstract
A CMOS Balun and T/R switch operating from 2 to 5GHz is integrated using the embedded transformer as the passive balun that is connected to the active device acting as the switching and amplifier. The transistor cells that consist of NMOS source follower and NMOS source amplifier are connected through the center-tapped secondary port of transformer and divide the signal flow into transformer and transistors. By adjusting the transistor switches for each signal path, the mode for receiver and transmitter can be selected. At the receive mode, the path loss is 5dB, and in the case of transmit mode, the path loss is about 13dB having the isolation of 20dB. The power consumption is 2.4mW and chip area is 1mm X 0.8mm.
