Abstract
A smart camera is a self-contained vision system. It includes the imager as well as the "intelligence" and related I/O capabilities. And, a smart camera has more flexibility or tools, inherently capable of being programmed to handle many imaging algorithms and application functions. Therefore, a smart camera needs more computing resources than a conventional vision system. This paper proposes the hardware architecture of the smart camera platform. The proposed platform combines the DM6446 DaVinci DSP from Texas Instruments with the low-cost Spartan-3A FPGA from Xilinx. This platform provides the sufficient hardware resources for implementing security functions in smart camera like object masking and encryption.
