Abstract
Rule-based logic systems like datalog and more expressive business rules have been widely applied for OWL reasoning as these logics are supported by well-studied theories and rich implementations. In this paper, we introduce an approach for rule-based OWL reasoning which combines meta-rules and translation. The approach not only improves the coverage of OWL reasoning, but also offers optimized performance. We have implemented the approach within Bossam, a rule-based OWL reasoner, and experimented with LUBM ontologies. We report the results which proved the validity of our approach for rule-based OWL reasoners.
