Abstract
An unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) is a vehicle which drives automatically to the target destination without human intervention. The application of UGV includes but not limited to reconnaissance, force protection, combat, and emergency response. Also, it can be used in various commercial services such as automatic valet parking service, unmanned surveillance system, and etc. However, the UGV has to equipped with expensive devices such as positioning devices (GPS/INS), perception devices (laser scanners, radars), computers and networking systems, and control S/W. It is a key factor to lower the cost to commercialize the UGV. In this paper, we solved the cost problem by moving the costly devices and control S/W to the infrastructure and servers except a primitive vehicle controller. The infrastructure-based system includes three major subsystems : vehicle controllers, local servers, and a global server.
