Abstract
In shipyards, there are many ship blocks that are unit for assembling a ship and carriers for the blocks called transporters. The blocks are moved by transporters according to schedule of assembling process. However, the moving schedules that are not fully controlled may result in increase of unplanned or ad hoc block moving and therefore brings inefficiencies about space utilization and shipbuilding process. To solve the problem about the block moving, we need a shipyard monitoring system that can manage location of blocks and transporters. In this paper, we implement a prototype of real-time shipyard monitoring system based on Geographic Information System(GIS). The position data are acquired by GPS receiver and RFID readers attached to multiple transporters and periodically sent to position data processing server. The server receives and processes position data in relation with geographic database. We present an architectural framework of the shipyard monitoring system that consists of position data processing server, positioning modules, interfaces with GIS, and position data provider. Also presented is an implementation of a prototype of monitoring application or client that displays the position data on map, in a simulation environment.
