Abstract
In this paper, we propose a personalization method of virtual machines for SoD (System on-Demand) service, which preserves the user's profiles and computing environment using a component based approach. In our approach, images containing an operating system, images containing application programs, and images containing the user's data are dealt with as reusable components. Using the components and user's profile, a personalized virtual machine can be assembled easily. By using the proposed approach, we can get a personalized virtual machine easily. Compared with the traditional approaches that give the user his or her own image which contains the operating system, application programs, and his or her own data, the proposed approach can save storage space and enhance the performance by using the reusable components of virtual machines. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, we apply the proposed approach to the personalization of virtual machines of multiple users of a laptop.
