Abstract
This article investigates the use of a multilayered disk array structure (MDAS) on a linearly polarized stacked microstrip patch exciter to increase antenna element gain. MDAS plays the role of directors and improves antenna gain. The parametric studies of MDAS are made through computer simulations at 10 GHz and it is found that the gain improvement is dominantly effected by overall height of MDAS. The antenna prototype of MDAS with center metal-rods was fabricated and its electrical performances were measured. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
