Abstract
This paper presents a study on the performance of the higher-order moments for musical genre classification. Especially the skewness and the kurtosis of the octave-scale subbands are considered. Experimental results on the widely used music datasets show that the higher-order moment features can improve classification accuracy when combined with the conventional lower-order moment features. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
