Abstract
High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is the most recent video coding standard which is developed by Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC.) Various coding tools were adopted to improve the coding efficiency. Even though the coding efficiency is highly increased compare to previous video coding standard, the computational complexity is also increased. In this paper, the efficient block mode decision algorithm is proposed to reduce these computational complexity of the block mode decision. The proposed method is consist of two parts. First is the coding unit (CU) depth decision procedure based on the depth information of neighboring blocks and determines whether CU split is performed. Then the block mode decision method for non-square prediction unit (PU)is also performed. Conducting the motion estimation for the asymmetric PUs are determined by the split information of the neighboring PUs. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the computational complexity with negligible loss of quality.
