Abstract
In this paper, a fast Intra mode decision algorithm using DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients distribution is proposed to reduce the HEVC encoder complexity. The RDO (Rate Distortion Optimization) process of HEVC uses RMD (Rough Mode Decision) and MPM (Most Probable Mode) methods for the decision of fast intra coding mode. The proposed algorithm can reduces the number of prediction modes more by using the characteristics of DCT coefficients. The proposed method reduces the encoder complexity on average 43%, while the coding efficiency is slightly decreased compared with HEVC encoder.
