Abstract
This paper presents an estimation of 3D ball motion using an infrared and acoustic vector sensor. The proposed technique adopts and combines two main methods: an impulsive sound source localization method with a 2D microelectromechanical system (MEMS) microphone array using the delay-and-sum beamforming technique, and a high-speed infrared scanning method. Our evaluation results for different velocities of the designed prototype show that the error rate is less than 5% in comparison with other ball motion estimation methods, which indicates that the proposed scheme can satisfy the requirements of most ball game simulators.
