Abstract
Existing DR(Demand Response) protocols are designed with the most successful and popular application layer protocol, HTTP. However, due to the rapid development of the Internet-of-things (IoT) protocol, DR messaging technology based on the IoT(Internet of Things) protocol to be used for light energy devices is highly required. In this paper, we extend the existing DR protocol using CoAP which inherited the existing HTTP idea and style. Through the proposed CoAP-based messaging method, the network overhead of SEP 2.0 and OpenADR 2.0 can be reduced by about 32% and 45%, respectively, compared to using HTTP.
