Abstract
Interference patterns of propagating and counter-propagating surface polariton waves are observed at the edge of metal-air interface using a photon scanning tunneling microscope. At plasmon resonance angle, the electromagnetic nearfield distribution is obtained and the period of interference patterns is estimated at 376 nm.
