Abstract
This paper propose a novel phase detection ring oscillator (RO) physically unclonable function (PUF). The proposed architecture of RO PUF uses phase detection scheme to generate a random output of the PUF. It consists of small amount of RO cells while making a lot of challenge-response pairs comparing with a classical RO PUF, which makes it easy to adopt it in various IoT devices. Our PUF can be used in IoT devices to make automatic generation of a digital identifier, to protect security keys, or to prevent chip cloning. We implement the proposed PUF in FPGA. The proposed RO PUF shows a good performance in three performance metrics such as uniqueness, steadiness, and randomness. Finally, we compare our result with other RO PUFs.
