Abstract
A signal source localization system based on UAV(s) is developed and field tested for preliminary performance evaluation. The on-board processor in the UAV estimates DoA (Direction of Arrival) of the received signal using a ULA (Uniform Linear Array). The estimated DoAs are transmitted to a localization station on the ground along with the timing, position and posture information obtained by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and INS (Inertial Navigation System) sensors on the UAV. The localization station performs a series of linear and nonlinear signal processing for reliably localize the signal source: Sample-equivalent normalization and SNR estimation based on autocorrelation matrix, nonlinear filtering of DoA estimates, and incremental localization. The results are evaluated under preliminary coarse condition and then refined with post-calibration to estimate the best achievable performance as reference.
