Abstract
In this paper, we discussed the application of wide bandwidth transmission in Korean DTT(digital terrestrial television) environment for the preparation of 8K-UHDTV service. Even though 4K-UHDTV service had started several years ago, the technologies and equipment for 8K-UHDTV are ready in media markets. The global manufactures such as LG, Samsung, Sharp, Sony are releasing various 8K-UHDTV commercial products already. When VVC(versatile video coding), which has twice higher video compression efficiency than HEVC(high efficiency video coding) used in 4K-UHDTV, is standardized in 2020, 8KUHDTV services are expected to be promoted actively through internet OTT(over the top), IPTV, cable TV etc. In this situation, it is worthwhile to consider 8K-UHDTV services thorough terrestrial television. In this paper, we discussed and analyzed the application of wide bandwidth transmission to investigate 8KUHDTV service with terrestrial TV. More over the wide bandwidth transmission has advantages in reducing network installation cost and operation cost. Through the computer simulation, it is shown that the wide bandwidth transmission has almost the same performances with legacy narrow bandwidth transmission.
