Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the performance of Packet Duplication(PD) scheme which has introduced in 3GPP standardization to improve the reliability of wireless link in mobile communication systems. PD is a high-reliability transmission scheme in which two or more independent radio links are established and the same PDUs are transmitted redundantly with the independent radio links in PDCP layer. It thereby allows a packet to be successfully transmitted even if packet loss occurs in one radio link. In this paper, we introduce the implementation method of PD scheme described in 3GPP standard and do performance analysis using the LTE module of the well known network simulator, NS-3. Through the performance analysis, it is shown that the reliability of wireless link is improved and the latency is reduced compared with the conventional transmission method.
