Abstract
We investigated the effect of size distribution of SiC aggregates on the field emission performance of carbon nanotube (CNT) paste-emitters. As-purchased raw materials were pulverized for decreasing the size of SiC aggregates. We found the optimal median size of the pulverized SiC to be around 1 µm with a relatively narrow distribution. The Ni2Si phase in the CNT paste-emitters on a Kovar alloy substrate is much higher for the optimally pulverized SiC filler than the as-purchased one, and would be responsible for the adhesion of CNTs onto the substrate, leading to better field emission performances in terms of reproducibility, uniformity, and reliability.
