본 논문은 정보 전달과 목표물의 방위각 추정을 동시에 수행하는 Multiple Input Multiple Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO OFDM) 펄스 레이다 통신 환경을 고려한다. MIMO 펄스 레이다에서는방위각 추정 분해능을 높이기 위해서 가상배열 안테나 구축을 위해 각 안테나에서 송신되는 파형을 서로 직교하도록 설계한다. 즉, 각 안테나 별로 부반송파를 직교하도록 할당하여 파형을 전송할 수 있다. 반면, 통신을 위해서는 각 송신단과 수신단 사이의 채널 이득에 따라 부반송파를 할당할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 통신과 레이다의 성능을 각 송신 안테나에 OFDM 부반송파를 할당하는 방법에 따른 정보 전송률과 방위각 추정 오차를 분석하였다. 또한, 이를 바탕으로 최적의 부반송파 할당 기법을 제안한다. 직교한 송신신호를 통해 가상 배열안테나를 구축하여 이를 바탕으로 MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) 알고리즘을 적용하여 방위각을 추정하며, 각 부반송파별 통신 채널의 이득을 바탕으로 Achievable rate를 유도할 수 있다. 모의실험을 통해 제안한 OFDM 부반송파 할당 기법의 Achievable rate과 방위각 추정 Mean Square Error(MSE) 성능들을 검증하였다.
