Abstract
Energy monitoring system makes a great deal of contribution to monitor energy generation and consumption in real-time in a smart grid. Besides providing visual representation of data in real-time, an energy monitoring system can provide us with the opportunity to infer pattern and holistic view of the situation as well as leverage an energy-trading ecosystem. Furthermore, when it comes to monitor a small-scale Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), an energy monitoring system can contribute significantly to piece together the information collected from distributed sources, such as solar power generation and energy storage system. In this paper, we propose user and system functional requirements for designing and implementing an Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture (OPC UA) based energy monitoring system of heterogeneous DERs. In addition to providing service scenario, in this paper, we present an energy monitoring system, which we implemented in our research by applying energy information and communication standard model in order to facilitate exchanging monitoring related information.
