Abstract
This study presents an analysis for the pressure pattern of a closed-loop fluid circulation system. A water circulation system of a commercial building is considered as a general closed-loop system. The system consists of a centrifugal pump, control valves, fan coil unit, and pipe. The pump circulates hot or cold water through the pipe to enable the heating or cooling operation of fan coil units on each floor. Control valves determine the connection between the main circulation loop and parallel branch for each floor. Because each fan coil unit works as a pressure sink of the system, the system dynamics changes with the valve operation. This study analyzes the relationship between the pump pressure head, volumetric flow rate, and electric power usage. The change in the control valve operation can be inferred from the change in the pressure pattern of the system.
