Abstract
A sub-THz Cassegrain antenna for long-distance transmission was designed, manufactured, and measured. We designed the main reflector to have a diameter of 30 mm to obtain a gain of 30 dBi or more and a relatively wider beam width than a general Cassegrain antenna. The proposed antenna has a gain of 36.8 dBi and a beam width of 2.5° at 245 GHz. The received power level and radiation pattern were measured by configuring a measurement environment to measure the performance of the sub-THz antenna. The commercial horn antenna and the proposed Cassegrain antenna were compared and measured. The transmitter consists of an analog signal generator (ASG) and an up-converter (UC), and a commercial horn antenna with 24 dBi gain at 245 GHz is attached to the upconverter. The receiver consists of a signal analyzer (SA) and a down-converter (DC), and the proposed Cassegrain antenna is attached to the down-converter. We compared the measured and simulated results to obtain reliable measurement results without using an anechoic chamber.
