Abstract
With the advent of new services such as 5G, cloud and IoT, services require the user plane (data forwarding) technologies in the networks to provide more powerful programmability and simpler converged network solutions. SRv6 can better meet the requirements of these services and facilitate the development of network services. This paper proposes an approach applying SRv6 to the User Plane of Mobile Core Networks (MUP) that enables scalability, traffic engineering (TE) capabilities and service programming, and analyzes the applicable use case to MUP, the effects and considerations of applying SRv6. The approach has the effect of improving scalability and reducing the number of session-related messages or state management in the middle of the nodes of the SRv6 user plane due to the UE session aggregation. This is expected to ultimately increase the manageability of end-to-end network control.
