Abstract
5G is the fifth-generation cellular network technology that virtualizes networks, is software-driven, and utilizes cloud technology. It is designed to increase speeds of mobile services while reducing latency and improving flexibility. Self-Organizing Networks that begins standardization with 4G is an automation technology designed to make the planning, configuration, management, optimization, and troubleshooting of cellular networks simpler and faster. With the development of cellular networks, new types of threats are continuously being discovered, and academia and industry are carrying out various studies on network threats and solutions. A fake base station, one of the representative threats, can collect user information or perform a denial of service attack by disguising a normal base station. We propose a method to detect fake base stations and to protect user equipments using Automatic Neighbor Relation, one of the core technologies of the Self-Organizing Networks.
