무선 송수신기에서 원하지 않는 강력한 전자파 신호, 간섭 신호 등을 보호하기 위해 고전압 PIN 다이오드가 내장된 전력제한기를 사용한다. 큰 전력을 갖는 신호가 전력제한기에 인가되면, PIN 다이오드는 턴-온 된다. 이 때 전력제한기는 낮은 임피던스로 변하고, 인가된 신호를 반사시킴으로써 수신단을 보호한다. 핀 다이오드는 직렬저항 (series resistance, RS)이 낮을수록 큰 전력을 효과적으로 제한할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 직렬저항을 낮추기 위해 베리어 메탈(barrier metal)을 제거한 PIN 다이오드를 제안하며, 제안된 다이오드와 베리어 메탈을 사용하는 일반적인 구조의 전기적 특성을 비교 분석했다.
