Abstract
Solid tissue phantoms have been developed based on soft silicone elastomers with hydrophile additives, such as absorptive dyestuffs and glucose concentrations. For two prototypes of phantoms, we investigated the relative transmittance and extinction characteristics with transmitted near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) using an optical probe sensor. Notwithstanding the surface reflection and multiple scattering in solid tissue phantoms, we have successfully verified the performance of noninvasive glucose detection using a proposed normalized extinction difference method. The linear regression analysis for prediction glucose levels has shown a 0.99 adjusted coefficient of determination to reference glucose concentrations from 0 to 987 mg/dL.
