Abstract
To improve the channel capacity and spectral efficiency, Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) released the second-generation digital terrestrial television standard, namely ATSC 3.0, comprising non-backward compatible technologies such as multiple input multiple output (MIMO) and layered division multiplexing (LDM). Although the current version of ATSC 3.0 does not allow using MIMO with LDM, it has been discussed to jointly combine LDM and MIMO due to the lack of spectrum. In this paper, we introduce our developing transmitter and receiver hardware, which implements the jointly combined LDM and MIMO broadcasting system and has two input and output ports for dual-polarized MIMO antennas. The developed system is intensively evaluated based on the reception performance in laboratory environments.
