Abstract
In this paper, we perform Roofline analysis on the OmniXtend protocol, one of the open source-based external serial bus standards in RISC-V systems. OmniXtend is a standard for external transmission of the TileLink protocol, a RISC-V system bus, and uses the Ethernet MAC protocol for serial transmission of the encapsulated TileLink protocol. RISC-V is an ISA that is currently getting attention as an alternative to ARM ISA, although its performance and functions do not reach the level of commercial server processors as ARM does. In order for the RISC-V system to reach the commercial server processor class, development and verification of various functions such as multi-socket SMP and external expansion memory are required. In this paper, we analyze and consider the feasibility of RISC-V processor as a commercial-level processor through Roofline analysis especially for the OmniXtend protocol, which can be used for multi-socket SMP and external memory expansion in RISC-V system.
