Abstract
Alamouti-coded polarization-time block code (APTBC) enables phase-diverse coherent detection without optical polarization tracking when combined with a simple single-polarization coherent receiver. However, this technology requires special digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for data recovery. In this paper, we propose a Modified Alamouti (MA) coded coherent algorithm that significantly reduces the complexity of the receiver DSP for data recovery. The MA-coded algorithm halves the number of required equalizers compared to conventional methods. We validate its performance through simulations and experimental demonstration of a 100 Gbps 16 QAM single-carrier MA-coded coherent system over 20 km of standard single-mode fiber (SMF). Performance verification shows that the MA-coded system achieves comparable results to conventional methods, achieving a power budget of 34 dB for 0-20 km fiber transmission.
